The Pandemic and the Rebirth of the Drive In


As the pandemic has raged movie theaters have closed and filmmakers have had to find new ways to get their movies to market. At the same time moviegoers are open to new means of watching movies. Watching a movie online is great and all but it doesn't always match the level of escapism and the experience of going to movie. 

Here, drive-ins have stepped in to fill the void. 

Many stories of have about recently about the resurgence of drive-ins.

And in addition to commercial drive-ins we have also seen a dramatic increase in impromptu drive-ins - much like the Renegade Picture Show was!

RPS 11 - Show Report

It was great to see everyone last Saturday. I love it when we have a big turnout for the show. I guess it is tough to go wrong when you have a movie as great as Raiders. So, as everyone knows, the new one comes out this week. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope that it lives up to all the hype! I don't know how many of you noticed but I was tinkering around with the sound during the show. At first it didn't seem loud enough so I cranked it up. Then it was easy to hear but by the next action sequence with rumbling bass it took no time to blow out BOTH speakers. Damn. That's the second time I've done that now. My gear just isn't beefy enough. I need to find some speakers - like concert speakers - that can blast the sound. If anyone has any leads on some concert-style monitors/speakers let me know - I'm in the market for those and a mixer. Moving forward.... I have an announcement, of sorts. Really just a teaser. New Stuff

It is official. We received the movie license for 2008 which means that in order to get our money's worth we are going to have to show a butt-load of films. I am in the process - though early in the process I must admit - of putting together the list of movies and a schedule for this season. At this point all I know is that the first show is going to be towards the end of March - and hopefully on a dry Friday or Saturday (probably Saturday) evening. I am interested in what everyones' suggestions are for movies this season. What would you like to see on the big screen (for free)? Speaking of the big screen...I've got some bad news. Actually, it's sort of good news bad news. But we'll start with the bad news. The bad news is that our movie screen on the side of the silos now has a metal cable tray running directly through it courtesy of a certain wireless cell phone company. A Great Show

We had the best turn-out yet for a Renegade Picture Show - I'm estimating over 30 people, and who knows how many cars. I hope everyone enjoyed the movie and the social atmosphere. That's what the drive-in experience is all about. Thanks to everyone who donated their hard-earned money to the show. We raised about $25 bucks so that will, of course, go into the improvement and upgrade fund. The new speakers, which were purchased using money from the previous show, worked wonderfully. The next show is planned for June 23 so mark your calendars. The title of the movie will be announced at a later date. For now, we are off to San Diego for the week. OH, we gave away stickers at the show - if you desperately want one and have to have one, donate a BUCK (or more) through the ChipIn link on the left, include your name and address and I'll gladly mail you one.
